So. Yesterday we got a phone call from C, asking about plans for the Girl’s birthday. (For the 3 of you I haven’t told, she’s having a party with her friends here; very small and very, very girly. Ze girly and I, we are not friends. Very anxious.) We made plans to go to a Happy Temple of Kiddie Joy the next day near their home. I know the Girl’s going to be excited, which is why I wanted her party on her birthday – which would mean immediately after school, thus freeing up the rest of the weekend – in the first place. She’s very happy I insisted now…
We talked a little about what she likes now. She’s discovered reading in a big way. She reads chapter books at night, after K or I read to her at bedtime. She loves girly things. Right now we’re having a battle over makeup. She gets to wear nail polish, but she’s been asking for other makeup things. But anyway.
C has been having a tough time; understandably, considering what she’s gone through these past 6 months. We talked a little about how hard this time of year is for them. I’m hoping that M will be okay with even seeing School Girl the day after, but I won’t be surprised if she can’t do it. Disappointed, certainly. Not surprised.
I will be pissed off if there’s heavy snow next weekend, but that’s the only thing I’m stressing over.

You know, if she really wants makeup, you could always look in to getting her some of the Little Libertine stuff. Then she has her own stuff but it’s also light enough that you don’t need to worry.
(Granted, she is young, but just thought I’d mention!)
You know, I’d thought about that too. And she has been really good about not wearing her nail polish to school (we made an exception for picture day yesterday), so I think I can trust her. Hmm… (((hugs)))
If she’s been good about it, might be worth a shot. You can always keep it somewhere she can’t get it all the time.
I think I might do that after all. I can keep it in our closet – she’s been good (so far) about not going in there, so that would work.
(((hugs))) Thank you.
I am in such trouble. Mine’s very girly too. I was hoping not to fight over make up until she was at least ten.
It all depends on the girl, I think. One of her classmates is a complete, utter tomboy, several are wearing nail polish to school every day, and most are in-between. And she’s not asked about makeup herself – although I did get to hear about the girls who wore eyeshadow and lipstick to the Valentine’s dance last weekend.
*sigh* Good luck. I’ll be needing that too.
Heh. It’s funny: the longer Doc works with colleagues who have girls (and the older those girls get), the more frequently she opines that she’s glad we have a boy. Whodathunkit? Not I…
Everybody told us a girl would be easy. Liars, I tell you – all of them.
How about a nice clear, shiny lip gloss? That adds a bit of sparkle but isn’t so grown-up of a thing that if feels inappropriate. My sis just gave her 12 going on 13 dear daughter her first eye shadow. It was a huge big deal for both girl and mama.
Here to hoping your weather holds!
That would be good, I think. I did get her and her two best friends some nail polish from an online store I’ve dealt with forever (feels like, in a good way), which I did last year.
It’s supposed to be crap all weekend, and I’m just hoping that the weather will be okay next weekend when we go south for our visit.
It is times like this that i am glad that i am dealing with a boy this time.
However, the WeeBeasty has already succumbed to the advertising, and can’t walk by the Axe products without telling me how much he NEEDS them. *L* I buy him the sample sizes, and have made it a rule that he will NOT use them if he is showering in the morning before school.
*headdesk*
And i’m still just so ‘wash and wear’ that i can’t even relate.
Oh, no. *shudder* He *is* about that age, too…
I wear a little makeup, and not usually during the week, so that’s not exactly a big deal for us now. Right now we’re fighting…other battles.
