Spin and Weave Week

So. We’re going through Round 1 of what I suspect may be H1N1 at Chez Evil (hey, at least I don’t have to let her wait to get a couple more shots), Evil Dad is off to the East Coast for a week, and I’m already getting tired of playing referee to a puppy, a grumpy cat and a sick girl. Which is, frankly, the least of my worries for the moment. I’d really, really like to talk about something else. Something happier and shinier.

Like spinning and weaving.

This week, Oct. 5 – 11, is Spinning and Weaving Week. People are celebrating it in lots of different ways. Our favorite yarn shop is celebrating with a sale all week and lots of activities for this weekend. On Saturday, they’re having story time, and on Sunday, one of our local alpaca farmers is bringing two of her babies to hang out outside the shop. School Girl is particularly excited about the baby alpacas, although she’s willing to go to story time as well. (I might even look for a rigid-heddle loom. Shh…)

I’ve been working on – well, lets’ face it, I’ve finally felt up to working on – my cabled yarn experiment. I just need to wind off the first bobbin, skein it up, and finish it. There is that nagging feeling that I didn’t make the final plying tight enough, but I’ll be able to tell better once the yarn’s finished. I think I might try felting this a bit more than normal. But we’ll see. Pictures will be happening once the yarn’s been finished, has dried, and Evil Dad is back with the camera.
