I sure as hell don’t now. Take a look at the latest Klassy (yes, with a well-deserved K) Facebook poll: Should Obama be assassinated?
I’m not sure what’s worse: that anybody would participate in something so disgusting, even to vote no, or that Facebook allowed it in the first place? They’ve had some questionable groups there in the past – and I use the term questionable charitably – and some less-than-wise polls as well. This particular one has launched an investigation by the US Secret Service. I disagree with the headline, by the way. I don’t think the mounting threats against the President are anger about health care. I think it’s something far more ugly.
It’s been encouraged by far-right bigots and racists who are oh so sad that “their country has been taken away from them”. My greatest fear is that some jackass will carry out their threat. I can’t even bring myself to think about that one.

It certainly puts this article in a new light – “Racial Divides Online: MySpace is seen as ‘black,’ while Facebook is seen as ‘white’”
(Hope you’re doing better…)
That was a pretty interesting article. Thanks for that.
Wasn’t there a Stormfront group or some such thing on FB a while back? I thought the admins had closed the group or something, but I’d guess the people are still on there.
Not sure how you’d define better. I’m functional – hoping to stay that way for the next couple days or so…Thanks for asking.
I doubt that article. I heard a few months ago that MySpace is considered the “trashy” social network and Facebook the classy one. (I’m not sure what Klassy means?)
I think the writer might be trying to push some agenda. Grain of salt, anyway.
I had heard that about MySpace and Facebook as well. I’m not sure quite what the difference is – or if it is race. I do know MySpace is still heavily skewed toward teenagers and bands.
Klassy, with a K, is almost like classy with a c. But different. You know, classy as spoken in a heavy Joisey accent. (Helps if you know where I’m originally from…)
You give me something to think about. I backed away from FB once, then went back, and enjoy being able to keep up with family. But there is definitely a lot of garbage there, and a lot of hacking, too.
I agree with you about the threats to the President – health care isn’t the motivation, it’s definitely something worse.
Hope all is well in your world!
Things are a little better. I owe both of you guys an email. (((hugs)))

Yeah, that was a real ugly mess. Even if it was a teenager who posted that poll, they have to be getting these vile ideas somewhere.
I stay on FB mostly because it’s the easiest way for me to get in touch with people from my classes, or occasionally professors… as well as being a good place for me to continue conversations from other sites like DU, but without being interrupted by cross-traffic there.
That’s how FB started out, as I recall – as a social network for college people. Students, professors, alumni – people like that.
Still, whether it was a high school kid or a “grownup” who posted the poll in the first place, it’s pretty clear that even the mention of wanting harm to come to the President is a federal crime. At best, it’ll get you a visit by serious-looking people in business suits.
When I got the visits from my high school “friends”, that was it for me.
*tight hugs*
Yeah, lately i’ve been getting friend requests from high school people i barely knew THEN…
It’s been tricky deciding whom to add, and there have been a couple of times i had to resort to removing and blocking people who simply had become something i didn’t feel like i needed in my life.
Oh, I knew these people. That’s all I intend to say here.
