…even if the people who live in it are, or can be, ugly. For example, let’s look at the trainwreck surrounding the state Senate’s debate over extending benefits for state employees’ same-sex partners. This past Monday, CO state Senator Scott Renfroe read from the Bible during the debate and compared homosexuality to murder. Fortunately, the Senate passed the legislation, SB 88, by a 22-12 margin on Tuesday.
And today, none other than Ari Armstrong says that Sen. Renfroe should resign for the good of the Republican Party:
In a just world, State Senator Scott Renfroe’s constituents would rise up and throw the bum out of office. If he had a lick of sense, he would resign. Of course, if he had a lick of sense, he wouldn’t have called homosexuality an abomination and a sin comparable to murder on the Senate floor in a blatant attack on church-state boundaries.
I can’t believe I actually agree with him on something, but he’s right. Absolutely right, even if it’s not for the same reasons that I think he should resign.
As usual, the Colorado GOP have been publicly silent over Sen. Renfroe’s performance. The Human Resource Council, on the other hand, has not.
In slightly happier LGBT news, the city of Aurora, CO has voted to extend insurance coverage to same-sex partners of city employees this past Monday evening, by a vote of 7-3. That is just unimaginably huge.

And one of your other Senators just voted against mandatory HIV testing for pregnant women because that would reward sexual promiscuity… Charming, that.
Hey, just 2 years ago one of the state Senators said that if CO allowed same-sex couples to marry, he could marry his donkey. Makes you proud…
Hey, at least in suggesting that he could marry his donkey, that senator admitted that he was indeed a jackass!
Yay for progress out west!
Now if we can just convince the state Senate here that they want to bury the proposed constitutional amendment that the ‘family’ groups here have proposed, and maybe even pass the equal-protection bill (housing and employment protections for LGBT folks)…
Hahahaha! Yes indeedy. That guy wasn’t even from the Springs…
It was a nice surprise that Aurora extended healthcare benes. Oh, and somebody’s awake now, so I’d better go.
