Copy this sentence into your Blog/LiveJournal/Twitter/Etc. if you’re in a heterosexual marriage, and you don’t want it “protected” by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.
Courtesy of Loki, “straight but not narrow”, at Humid City. Spread it ’round, if you wouldn’t mind.
And…an anti-Prop 8 video from the Skepchicks:
Don’t forget to check the disclaimer at the very start of the video. Very important, and I couldn’t agree more with the analogy.
For those of you who don’t know, same-sex marriage is now legal in the state of California. Proposition 8 is a CA ballot initiative that would make same-sex marriage illegal, and nullify the marriages that have already taken place. If you live in CA, please vote no on Prop. 8.

I live in CA and will definitely vote NO on 8. Of course I vote NO on most props anyway
I was disgusted by the yes on 8 ad I got in the mail yesterday and their stupid signs – they have people looking symbols with their arms up like “Yeah!” Personally I really don’t understand why people don’t want other people to be in monogamous relationships. You’d think that would be a good thing. It’s not like the divorce rate (for heterosexual couples) isn’t 50% as it is. You’d think it would be a good thing to have people out there monogamous rather than dating around – and that might affect your marriage more than a couple pledging to stay together! Honestly. And the churches (not even from CA!!!) getting involved – don’t you have more sinning to worry about in your own state? How about all of that shacking up, kids and sex out of wedlock? Lame!!!
Absolutely. Marriage has more to fear from straight people than anybody else.
Good luck – if I could still vote in CA, I would.
I have used that same argument more than a few times, so i’m glad to see someone tale the obvious analogy and do something that effective with it.
I have a good friend in Hollister CA, and the last time i talked to him, he was excited that his
“No on 8″ signs/stickers kit had finally arrived. He’s a middle-aged, single, straight man who is furious that these fundie-f*ckers are trying to encode discrimination into their state Constitution.
*tightest hugs, and hoped that Colorado goes blue, and that Musgrove gets retired finally*
*tighthugsback* It’s looking good so far; not in our area, unfortunately – we’ve had to have a talk with School Girl about not discussing politics, even though she’s wild about Obama – but things are looking very blue indeed in and around Denver, even up in the mountains.

That’s so cool. I hope Prop 8 goes down in flames.

I’m having a tough time with the comments this evening – I’ll email you when School Girl gets dropped off, or right before.
I’ve seen a few postings on LDS blogs that they plan to distribute YES ON 8 literature to kids TOMORROW ON HALLOWEEN. Please see this before voting on Prop 8!
They claim they want to isolate and insulate kids, and now millions of California kids will be returning home to ask mom and dad about “sodomy” or whatever propaganda the mormons plan to distribute. I’m working on a response to this that I’m hoping I can get to “go viral” tonight. Moms are pretty good about spreading Halloween horror stories via email.
I’m also amused at how many “YES ON 8″ folks have their Halloween plans on their blogs and webpages. Apparently, glorifying Satan is A-OK, but allowing your neighbors to live in peace even if you disagree with them isn’t. Some “religion!”
I’m stunned, but not surprised, that people would stoop this low. Thanks for saying something about this.
Tryiing really hard not to make cracks about how Mormons wouldn’t have a problem with making polygamy legal….
