Debate #2
I watched some but not all of the debates last night. Unsurprisingly, I am no longer allowed to watch any political show whatsoever with a drink in my hand. Or with a drink in the same room. Just a couple of thoughts about the roughly 20-30 minutes that I was able to watch (Yay for computer/bath duty!):
- Did anybody else think that Tom Brokaw was being overly deferential to
ol’ PappySen. McCain? It could be that I’m just overly sensitive. - I think I could also see smoke coming out of McCain’s head. Much like a Dalek before it starts spinning around and explodes.
- If you must watch the debate next week, you might want to give BBC America a try, if you’re able and/or haven’t already. Much less stressful.
- It seemed like McCain was trying, and failing, to channel Ronald Reagan. McCain’s not a good enough actor, apparently. Obama looked like the lone adult in the room – and yes, I’m counting Brokaw in that as well. I liked what he had to say on health care, although I wish that he would go farther and just advocate for expanding Medicare/Medicaid (you know, the “socialist” health-care system we already have).
In closing, I’d like to thank Senator “Pap” McCain for making my choice that much easier. It’s official – I’m voting for “that one”.

I was glad that Obama chose the correct answer between privilege, right and responsibility, but just once can a politician go “you know, the health care Congress gets is pretty amazing. I think EVERYONE should have it.”
If we can find nearly a trillion for overseas adventuring and bailing out jokers who go on 400k retreats with taxpayer money, we can make sure we have a healthy society.
Oh man is that socialist. I apologize.
Absolutely. And as far as the bailout goes, I see the UK is doing something similar right now. But they’re not enabling, they’re nationalizing (sort of, partially).
Oh man is that socialist. I apologize.
*snicker* Best not be apologizing for that here…
Hell, I would love to vote for the Green Socialist Workers Party (if there was such a party) candidate for president and that they’d actually have a shot!
You know, there’s always Cynthia McKinney.
I heard today that Tom Brokaw is the ABC (?) liaison to the McCain campaign. So it would make a lot of sense if he were leaning in his direction. Of course my Republican friend (I am *so* happy I only have one or two here in CA) had to say that “someone has to do it” and I said, “Yeah, but then to moderate the debate when he’s biased?” To that she said that Obama didn’t answer any of the questions. I didn’t watch the debate, but I know she didn’t either, and she probably got that from her talking points on the talk radio she always listens to.
ABC? Huh – I guess times change, right?
I’m curious as to why he was allowed to moderate at all if he’s a part of one of the campaigns. Aren’t the LoWV still sponsoring these, and not a Major News Outlet?
Um, IIRC there was only one question (of the stuff I saw, granted) that Obama didn’t answer, and that’s primarily because he wasn’t given the opportunities to go over time the way McCain did constantly. Come to think of it, it makes more sense now…
