School Girl was back to her usual perky self this morning, so we decided to head out to school. As we were getting ready to leave, she asked, “You’re going to wait for me, aren’t you Mommy?”
“We’ll see, baby. I’ll wait as long as I can, okay?”
“Okay. But I still want you to wait for me.”
When we got there, her teacher was outside. So…
“(Teacher) is here. So you don’t have to wait until we go in. Could you wait for a little bit?”
“Sure. I’ll wait for the first bell (when, you know, they’re supposed to be going into class). Is that okay?”
“Okay.”
So I did. When the first bell rang, I waved and walked away. She waved back and continued waiting in line. When I turned back, she was standing with her head down. Damn, that was hard.
I hope she has a good day today.

Oh, that is hard. Harder on you than on her — but that’s no consolation at the time.
The hardest part was after school – she was happy and bouncy, and said she had a great day. Which sounds odd, but I didn’t hear about the last time she broke down in tears during class. Not from her, anyway…one of the kindie aides told me.
