Mother’s and other’s Day

So, Mother’s Day has come and gone. We had to buy a new washing machine on Saturday – long story, it’s been slowly dying for the past 2 months and the motor went from sluggish to nonexistent in a day – so I figured that would be my Mother’s Day present.

Later on that afternoon, Evil Dad asked questions about my iPod. The Shuffle that I inherited from his vendor one Xmas ago has died, too. My “hypothetical iPod”, apparently, now does a bit of video. So I spent Mother’s Day afternoon on the back porch, watching a really bad kung-fu movie with School Girl on the world’s smallest video screen. I also got a couple of Nightmare Before Xmas things that I’ve been looking at, and a necklace and Hello Kitty earrings from School Girl.

My favorite present? It’s a toss-up between the booklet and Shrinky-Dink pin that School Girl made on Friday and the text that M sent. I wish I had seen it sooner than 4:30 yesterday, but it got sent to Evil Dad’s phone by mistake. We sent her a Mother’s Day card, picked out and written by School Girl, and some more pictures. Mother’s Day has always been difficult for the two of us. Things are getting slowly easier between us, so I’m hoping that someday we’ll be able to go out for Mother’s Day together. But we’ll see.

Do I feel like a mother? If I say that I can’t write about that, that would be an answer. At least as much answer as I’m prepared to give. I hope every mother out there had at least a tolerable Mother’s Day yesterday.
