We’ve decided to make this week Earth Week. Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day (as well as Lil’ Nephew’s birthday). So…we’ve been talking to School Girl about ways that we can take better care of our world.
So far, we’ve:
- Taken a garbage bag with us on our walks to and from school. Over the past year, we’ve noticed a lot of trash next to the sidewalk. School Girl came up with this idea herself.
- Started more plants for the back yard. So far, we have cherry tomatoes, purple basil, parsley (which has yet to sprout – we planted the parsley and basil at the same time), and peas. The peas have sprouted, and by next weekend they should be ready to have a trellis in back of them. This week we’re also starting some night-scented stock, some 4-o-clocks and some nicotiana for a night garden (finally!).
- We’re ordering some insulated windows for the upstairs. The only reason we haven’t done it yet is money. All the windows downstairs are double-pane, but none of the ones upstairs.
I’m also looking into an organic farm in our area to buy my next fleece/s.

Great ideas, getting School Girl involved is great too. They learn by example.
Yes, they sure do. Plus School Girl’s into it, at least for the moment. We might take the train up to Denver for the Earth Day fair after school.
