Just when I was about to post about it, too.
Yesterday, the Colorado State Senate Judiciary Committee killed a proposed abortion ban. The ban would have made only one exception: to preserve the mother’s life. No exceptions for rape. No exceptions for incest. None.
Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald came out strongly against the ban, and spoke to the crowd outside the Capitol building yesterday.
Fitz-Gerald said choice is not a carefree decision but one that should “involve only a woman and her doctor.”
“We fought for it. We have it. And we will not compromise it,” she said. “We will fight for it with every fiber of our being.”
There were also some Republicans who spoke out against the ban, including Sen. Wayne Allard’s niece, Karen Allard-Campbell.
“I am frustrated at my party and their focus on divisive social issues such as this,” she said. “Legislators who are pushing this extreme legislation are not real Republicans at all.”
I wish that more Republicans who felt this way would speak out, and not just about abortion.
